While at Toya, I had the opportunity to work on StyleVerse. As the sole designer on the team, I worked closely with the brand and team leads to bring the game to life. It's been an honor getting to work with such an incredible team, and being apart of such an amazing game!
Iteration
When creating StyleVerse, the brand requested that the game design highlighted their fashion prowess, wanting gameplay similar to Dress to Impress. However, it could not be too similar to Dress to Impress as they did not want to endanger their partnership with them.
The first iteration of the game saw players having to use random clothing items to create an outfit that matches the rounds theme. However, after testing, we quickly realized that players didn't care what clothing they received, but instead the customization options they could use for the clothing.
Our second iteration saw us try randomized customization options, however this resulted in players struggling to have coherent outfits that matched up with the round's theme. It wasn't until our third iteration that we felt the core of the game was in a good place.

Social Media Gamification

The third iteration of StyleVerse took inspiration from Clip It, resulting in a game that was closer to a TikTok style social media app. In order to keep an emphasis on fashion elements, we included rotating challenges where players had to take videos that matched the round's theme. As another incentive for players to create videos, we created a "Lana's Favorites" tab for the videos, where videos the brand had liked personally would be displayed with a Golden Heart award. Lastly, we gave players coins after each video that they could use to unlock exclusive clothing items designed by the brand themselves.
